Tenpetal Anemone is one of the few truly native plants in my yard. It tends to grow in the west yard. I often see it in the few yards around my neighborhood where the owners don't mow their lawns. This picture was taken on March 12, 2014.

The sepals look like petals on a tenpetal anemone flower. The flowerheard, which is composed of many florets, grows once the florets are pollinated.

Eventually, the sepals and anthers wither and fall off.

The cone breaks apart when the seeds mature, releasing them to blow in the wind.
