Lawnflower grows in shady areas around the yard. It is known as an invasive species, but it doesn't take over like some other forbs, like violet woodsorell. According to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, it is native to eastern Mexico and south-central Texas, but Tveten and Tveten say its native range includes the west indies and central America, but not the U.S.
