Cantharellus "cibarius" - MushroomExpert.com

I found this chanterelle on April 19, 2017, near my live oak in the front yard on the day after a good rain. The cap wasn't really concave, but all the characteristics indicate it's a chanterelle. I resisted the urge to cook and eat it, opting instead to take a spore print. Apparently I can cook it later if it dries in the appropriate way, but I will probably scatter bits of it around the oak once I get the print.

The mushroom was firm and stiff. When I pulled on it, it broke off at the base of the stem. Apart from the very edge of the cap, it was quite thick.

A close look at the false gills shows rounded folds, unlike the sheet-like gills of gill mushrooms.
