This small beetle was floating on rainwater in a 5-gallon pail on my back patio on February 8, 2017. It was small, but large enough for me to see it was a beetle from a standing position. One reference said it was about 4 mm long, which seems reasonable. I rescued it by letting it crawl on my finger, then took pictures with my macro lens until it flew away.
