Among the plant materials a garden tortix's larvae feed on are the leaves of strawberry plants and citrus trees. According to wikipedia, they usually feed on dead or decaying leaf litter, but can sometimes eat fruit as well.

I found this garden tortrix on April 12, 2017, while I was walking between the raised beds and the back fence. I had recently cut back the trees between the fences, and several moths flew up as I disturbed the cuttings on the ground. This one landed on the fence and stayed there.
