Muskmelon is the plant that produces cantaloupe. It has been bred over the centuries to produce a variety of similar melons, such as honey dew melons.
At my previous house, I grew a lot of delicious cantaloupe on trellises using store-bought compost. In 2014, They didn't do well at all, and I think the problem was a lack of nutrients. The seedlings appeared, but they didn't grow much past that. At the same time, I grew good cucumbers without a problem.>

The picture shows two cantaloupe seedlings on March 23, 2014.

 This cantaloupe was about the right size on June 16, 2017, but it was still black&white and firmly attached to its vine.

On June 23, 2017, I found these cantaloupes had detached from their vines.
