How to Grow Butternut Squash from Seed - Mother Earth News

Duration: Annual Native to: Central America or northern South AmericaEdibility: FruitStatus in Yard: Garden

I grew some butternut squash when I began an eight-bed rotation in the spring of 2016. The soil I had in my raised bed lacked nutrients, and the crop grew slowly. I did manage to produce a few squash, which I steamed and ate.

In 2014, I planted some winter squash seeds. They grew to be a large plant that spread out over the yard.

The flowers from the large squash plant in 2014 attracted ants and bees.
