Dioprosopa clavata - BugGuide

This four-speckled hoverfly was hovering around a bean plant on May 24, 2014. Hover flys are also referred to as syrphid flies.


Here it is moving in on some aphids that are being guarded by ants.


A hover fly larva being attacked by aphid-farming ants, with a mealybug destroyer looking on. The larvae feed on aphids.
