I found this female treehopper on a common sunflower leaf in the late afternoon of May 25, 2017. It moved away from me when I was trying to take still photos and didn't move at all when I was taking videos! Most or all treehoppers pierce plant stems with their rostrums, and drink the sap. This particular species favors plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), such as the sunflower. They excrete excess sap, much like aphids do, and for this reason they are tended by ants like aphids are.
