I took a day off from work and had 20 cubic yards of soil delivered to my house.

I hauled dirt from the driveway to the backyard much of the day.

With Buck’s help, I finished putting the soil in my raised beds. I had enough left to add a shallow bed at the eastern end of the yard, replacing the old bed that was there. I also added soil to my herb garden and made mounds along the back fence for my trellises.
Later in the afternoon, I had a Vegan World Radio meeting at my house. After the meeting, I harvested most of the radishes, washed them, cut of the leaves, and gave some to all my guests. Afterwards, I went back and pulled the rest of the radishes, along with some mustard and other greens. Many of the mustard leaves were covered with small insects that I did not identify. I started to wash them, then gave up and composted them. What I did keep I put in a kitchen trash back and stuffed in my fridge. I also put a lot of radishes in containers and put them in the fridge. I know radish leaves are good, but these had been out in the yard a long time and didn’t look so good. I threw all the radish leaves in the leaf mold pile.

I moved my trellises towards the eastern end of the back fence and moved some of the soil into mounds in front of them. I then planted cantaloupe “Hale’s Best Jumbo” seeds in ten places in the mound for the big trellis, cucumber “Straight Eight” in the six place for one smaller trellis and cucumber “Poinsett 76” for the other smaller trellis. I will remove all but a few plants for each trellis once they grow to about 3 inches.
