Fuligo septica - U. Wisconson Master Gardener Program
I saw this slime mold form in late 2016, and I saw several blobs of it (plasmodia) in my raised beds on February 28, 2017. It improves the soil by breaking down bits of wood and making their nutrients available to other plants.
