I have often seen spicebush swallowtail adults fly in and out of the yard, but I only recall seeing black swallowtails in their larval stage. Perhaps this is because I usually have plants, such as dill and fennel, on which females tend to lay eggs, but my yard does not have the features black swallowtails prefer for mating. This larva was munching on some dill on May 19, 2015.
