I found this flea beetle on February 2, 2017. It is in the genus Phyllotreta, in which there are multiple black beetles that look a lot like this one. They tend to eat brassicas (kale, cabbage, broccoli, collards, etc.) of which I have many in my garden. These beetles are all tiny, under 2mm long. I found this one when what I thought was a speck of dirt moved.
