Metricus paper wasps are the most common wasps in my back yard. I often see them on the frames of my raised beds. They don't seem to mind my presence much.
I took this picture of this wasp who had seen better days. Her wings were torn up at the ends, but still functional. Females of the species have red faces, whereas the males' faces are yellow.
