Rove Beetles - Wikipedia

Rove beetles constitute the world's largest taxonomic family in the world, with about 63,000 species. This particular critter is pretty nondescript, so I won't venture to identify its species. It is only a few millimeters long. The photo shows the beetle with its wings tucked under its elytra (beetle wing covers).

The video shows the wings unfurled, and in the last second, the beetle opens its elytra and flies away. I took the photo and video on February 2, 2017.
