Silvanoprus scuticollis - BugGuide

I found this little (2-3 mm) beetle in my tea mug on March 19, 2017. I managed to dump him out of the mug on my sunny kitchen windor sill and take some photos. The one shown here is the only one that was reasonably in focus. The beetle kept trying to run away and hide, but I flicked it back to the middle of the sill and rushed to take pictures.

I could not fnd much useful information about Silvanoprus scuticollis. One source says "timber", which suggest the beetle, probably the larvae, eat wood. Another possibility is that the adult female bores into trees and lays her eggs there.

Silvanoprus scuticollis is nearly cosmpolitan. It is found in most countries around the world.
