I regularly saw Herpetogramma moths every fall since I moved to my new house in 2013, but in 2016 there was a major infestation all over my neighborhood. I found this one on the back wall of the garage on October 11, 2013.

Whenever I would walk through my grass, dozens of the moths would fly up in the air and quickly hide again on the underside of grass blades. I mostly solved the problem by mowing my front yard very short. In the back yard I mowed some but didn't worry too much about it. The larvae (the sod webworms) build tubes along the ground beneath the grass, then snip off the blades and drag them into their tubes to eat later.
