On the night of May 3, 2020, I found a spined oak borer in my hallway bathroom. He or she must have been drawn by the light, as this species is. According to BugGuide, The larvae eat the dead wood of nearly any eastern hardwood, and they stay under the bark of dead limbs and eat the dead wood until they pupate in about two years.
