Cyrtomium falcatum - Wikipedia

Duration: Perennial Origination: eastern AsiaEdibility: Toxic?Status in Yard: Removed

It took me a while to notice the Japanese holly fern, tucked as it was in the nandina behind my bedroom. Another plant from the far east, it has absolutely no reason to be in Houston, Texas, apart from a previous owner's apparent desire to pretend he or she lived in China or Japan.

It's not a particularly attractive fern. If the leaves didn't have sporangia on them, one might not realize it was a fern at all. In line with my intention to favor native plants, I removed it in 2015, and no vestige of it remains.
