SFGate - Interesting Facts About a Chandler Strawberry Plant

Duration: Perennial Native to: a cross of Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis from ChileEdibility: FruitStatus in Yard: Garden

I grew strawberries successfully at my previous house, having built a cage to keep other animals, especially birds, from getting to them before I did. I planted some a couple years ago at my current residence, but had no cage, and most of the fruit was eaten by birds. I only planted a few transplants, counting on runners to create more plants. I planted six new transplants (variety "Chandler") in late January 2017.
