Oplismenus hirtellus - Wikipedia
Oplismenus hirtellus - USDA PLANTS Database

Basket grass lives in a few patches in the back yard, though it has been crowded out of some areas by the raised beds and my gardening activities. It is native to this area. Its cousin, Oplismenus undulatifolius, is considered an invasive species, but both species have spread aound much of the world.

I first noticed a small patch of basket grass in the water oak circle on August 25, 2013, but I wasn't able to identify it at the time. It is to the lower-right of the
water oak, with some taller dallisgrass between the basketgrass and the tree.

By October 19, 2014, the patch of basket grass had grown a lot, pushing out the other plants that were there. There were also small patches in other areas of the back yard.
