Raccoon - Wikipedia

I have seen raccoons in my back yard multiple times, and they are probably there often at night. In early 2017, a pair of raccoons found a way into my attic and stayed for a couple days. I soon found the way they got in-- a soffit with a big hole in its screen. I knew they were raccoons because I watched them leave the attic through my hall bathroom window.

The next day, I covered all the soffits except their entrance with hardware cloth, then waited until I couldn't hear them moving around up there in the evening. When I was confident they were out, I stapled hardware cloth over the entrance hole. I have not had that problem as of April 2017.

I like having raccoons around. They eat a lot of grubs in the yard, which I know because I regularly see the holes in the ground. It's also possible that possums, or both, are making the holes.
