Duration: Perennial | Native to: Southern Asia | Edibility: Rhizome | Status in Yard: Not currently planted |
I bought some ginger rhizome (the part one uses as food) at a supermarket in the spring of 2016, broke it into pieces, and planted the pieces in a couple garden beds. The rhizomes produced leaves, but didn't grow fully enough to produce more rhizome. I think I needed to add more nutrients to the soil, especially in the raised beds.
The plant with the narrow leaves in this picture, taken on June 29, 2016, is ginger. The plant with the wider leaves is turmeric.
