Canna - Wikipedia

Duration: Perennial Origination: Not sureEdibility: ToxicStatus in Yard: Limited

I had some canna parts in one or more bags of leaves I collected in spring 2019 to make compost. The bag with the canna material also had a lot of dirt, so instead of shredding the contents of the bag, I dumped it all on the ground. Within a couple of months, four canna seedlings grew out of the pile. In late May, 2019, I posted the plants on a Facebook gardening group and offered to sell them for $3 each. Within a few minutes someone wanted them. I potted three of them and, in the end, made $20. It think this was the first time I made money off my garden. I also put a fourth one in a pot although its survivability was questionable.

A couple of the plants had hard, dry clumps of dirt around their bases, with stringy roots coming out the other side. They must be pretty drought tolerant since I never watered then, and it had been hot the last couple of weeks before I sold them.
