Duration: Perennial | Native to: Yemen, Somalia, and Sudan | Edibility: Disputed, gel used in food might not be healthy | Status in Yard: Died, not replaced |
I bought one of my two aloe vera plants at a yard sale, and was given the other by a friend. They both did well in pots on my back patio until the freeze of January 6-7, 2017. Now they both seem to be dead. At first glance they look okay, but the leaves are soft and squishy. I never used the aloe veras for any purpose apart from looking at them.
This photo from January 11, 2017 shows a seemingly healthy plant. However, as I said, I can tell by touch that it is probably dead. Note how the bottom leaves hang down the side of the pot.
