This so-called Texas Sage, which is not a true sage, is one of the many ornamental plants that previous owners of my home planted to "beautify" the yard. A pretty large stand of them grew on the south side of the water oak, as seen in the picture, and by some loropetalum, which is also a non-native ornamental. In 2016, I pulled out the texas sage and Loropetalum because they were not native and because they made it hard to access the area around the water oak tree.
