Brassica oleracea - Wikipedia

Brassica oleracea is the plant with many cultivars that people use for food. It is very hardy and relatively cold-tolerant for a food plant, and all of its cultivars grow very well here in Houston.

B. oleracea has seven cultivar groups (from Wikipedia):
  • Brassica oleracea Acephala Group – kale and collard greens
  • Brassica oleracea Alboglabra Group – kai-lan (Chinese broccoli)
  • Brassica oleracea Botrytis Group – cauliflower, Romanesco broccoli, and broccoflower
  • Brassica oleracea Capitata Group – cabbage
  • Brassica oleracea Gemmifera Group – brussels sprouts
  • Brassica oleracea Gongylodes Group – kohlrabi
  • Brassica oleracea Italica Group – broccoli
