Brassica oleracea - Wikipedia
Brassica oleracea is the plant with many cultivars that people use for food. It is very hardy and relatively cold-tolerant for a food plant, and all of its cultivars grow very well here in Houston.
B. oleracea has seven cultivar groups (from Wikipedia):
- Brassica oleracea Acephala Group – kale and collard greens
- Brassica oleracea Alboglabra Group – kai-lan (Chinese broccoli)
- Brassica oleracea Botrytis Group – cauliflower, Romanesco broccoli, and broccoflower
- Brassica oleracea Capitata Group – cabbage
- Brassica oleracea Gemmifera Group – brussels sprouts
- Brassica oleracea Gongylodes Group – kohlrabi
- Brassica oleracea Italica Group – broccoli
