West Fence Area

The west fence area is bounded by western neighbor's yard, the processing area to the east, the small gate fence to the south, and the north fence area.

This was the first area in the yard I modified, which I did by putting soil I brought from my previous house on some cardboard in the southwest corner of the backyard. This suppressed the St. Augustine grass, so when I removed the soil and cardboard, I saw a long, nearly bare strip along the west fence.

On September 16, 2013, I planted a coral honeysuckle close to the middle of the west fence.

On September 27, 2013, a morning glory vine had worked its way through the fence from the western neighbor's yard and flowered.

On March 28, 2014,  a wet day, a stand of oriental false hawksbeard was starting to flower in the southwest corner of the back yard, by the back yard gate.

On May 17, 2014, the morning glory vines from my western neighbor's yard were invading my yard for the first time, at least since I moved here a year earlier.

Overall, the western half of the back yard had changed little in the last year apart from the beans on the arbor and the plants added against the back fence.

On May 24, 2014, the white sweet clover had grown tall, with long stems of white flowers.

southern annual saltmarsh aster was starting to grow quickly.

American black nightshade was flowering and fruiting.

The southern half of the west fence area on June 17, 2014.

On June 21, 2014, the west fence area somewhat near the southern end had lawnflower, dallisgrass, bermudagrass, some sedges and ruellia seedlings growing. the photo also shows the amount of shade along the fence at 3:47 p.m., which also closely delimited the St. Augustine grass from the other plants, with the St. Augustine on the sunny side. This is probably a coincidence; this is the area that I had covered with cardboard and soil when I first moved into this house.

About two-thirds of the way to the northern end of the fence, the prairie indian plantain plant I had transplanted there was barely surviving.

Near the back end of the fence, two small tropical milkweeds were still small.

On October 19, 2014, the southern annual saltmarsh aster along part of the southern area of the fence had grown very tall and was slowly falling over, covering the other plants in the area.

On May 5, 2017, I did a photo survey of the west fence area.
